The Alpine Adventure is a nomadic flying trip along the Alpine Mountains.
The concept is not to fly huge distances every day, but to try and fly together as a group, and enjoy the stunning scenery improving XC
skills and maybe even managing some top landing in idyllic spots for
a break. We discovered during our test run that when we flew a really long day, energy levels, physically and mentally were not adequate for the days to follow. Therefore, we decided to keep the flying distances between 50 to 80 km per day depending on the weather.
The idea is also to keep moving even if the weather is bad, or the distance flown is short, we then cover small distances to the next site by transport rather than wait for changes in the weather, this way we are moving forward and seeing new spots.
– Not looking for huge distances, but rather fly together as a group
– Improving personal performance, reading terrain and weather analysis
– Improve personal thermaling, transitions and contouring skills
– Have fun and try to cover as much of the route by air!!
– Rediscover Nature and its simple pleasures, by living with it.
– This course is aimed at experienced XC pilots ( in reasonably physically fit condition, and a lot of good humor!
– Minimum level required: confirmed pilots license with a XC flights experience. The pilot participants must be at ease in flying with other pilots as a group and capable of responsible behavior and good radio communication during flight.
The start is often in the southern Alp close to Gourdon and col de bleine. Looking at the » mediteranean cost, we are flying over mid range lime stone mountains, following the Napoleon road. Passing Ubaye and Durance river, we slowly glide into « les Ecrins », before cruising along the Gresivaudan valley, and the first Alpine meadows. Finally climbing to high granit mountain and pushing towards Savoy and Mont Blanc.
Experience the world from a bird’s-eye view.

Flying in Bir in October/November is fantastic. The weather is reliable and provides very consistent flying conditions for XC. Motivated pilots can fly more than 25 hrs. in a week! The proximity of high terrain (the famous Back) offers an incredible area to play with good safety, as you are never far from the Flats and the civilization. Pilots of any level can enjoy…. from novice XC to big distance or high altitude flying and Bivouac, from cloud surfing in front over the flats, to cruise at 3000 m along the Dauladhar Range and for some climb up in the back to see the great 5000 icy peaks. Bir-Billing offers it all.
On the middle of the paddy field and between the old Thea plantation, the village of Bir is divided in two with Bir Khas Indian village at the top and Bir Chogan, Tibetan colony, close to the huge, nevertheless busy landing field.
With an open view to the west, the village regroup various world food restaurants and pilot friendly guest houses and hotels, all along one main road (and a few arteries). By foot or by taxi, you can move easily in the village.
Food is nearly available on a 20 hrs. basis in Bir and there are plenty of things to do and to visit. Afternoon can be hot at the landing and night can be pretty fresh.!

Paragliding in Millau offers a very large choice of flying. From cross country to ridge-soaring and un-stoppable restitution…. This area has a great terrain, full ridges orientated to main wind direction and all at gliding distances from each other. The lift can go up to 3500 AMSL most afternoons in summer. Although the XC is technical here, it’s current to fly 100 kms, and the 250 kms mark is up to come.
Go and return, Triangle, or straight line, it’s all good here.
Dedicated to XC flights and distance,
We will warm up with easy “local tour”, Aller-retour! (go and return) and triangle type flights. On a good day, we can fly far and have possibilities to go over 150 Kms…Typical flat land style flying with middle high tablelands and gorges make the view incredible. Possibilities recreational flight in the evening.
We often fly with a bit of wind, it gives great possibilities for distances. There is also an Hours drive away to more options in case of strong conditions. We cover all options.
This is the land of blue rivers and gorges with beautiful cliffs cutting to some massive flat high-altitude lime stone table lands. The town of Millau over seen by the striking Viaduct at the junction of Tarn and Dourbie rivers offers lots of restaurants, activities and fresh food. Twice weekly local markets and a wander in the old town or riverside during summer will immerse you in the typical culture.
Camp sites are on the river sides, close to the numerous landing sites and also to a regular shuttle service to the take-off.
